Claustrum è una parola che ci riporta a qualcosa di chiuso, privo di relazioni con l’esterno, ma che, nell’immaginario, contiene misteri e meraviglie. Dato un enorme parcheggio fotovoltaico come luogo di progetto per la nuova sede universitaria, la risposta è stata voltare le spalle al contesto e ricreare una sorta di luogo ideale all’interno dei confini stabiliti. Dall’esterno, la pelle metallica che riveste la struttura in legno è un foglio compatto che quasi tocca terra; nel penetrarlo, il foglio si solleva, facendo spazio alla facciata di vetro strutturale che consente alla biblioteca, alle aule studio e alla maggior parte degli spazi comuni la vista sul fitto bosco che cresce nella corte.
Claustrum is a Latin word which reminds a closed place without any relationship with the outside, but – we may suppose – many wonderful things may happen inside it. Given a huge, photovoltaic parking lot as project site, the answer was to withdraw from the surroundings and recreate an ideal place within the boundaries. From the outside, the metal skin which covers the wood structure is a compact sheet almost touching the ground; when one enters, this sheet raises up making space to structural glazing facades, that allow the library, the study rooms, the restaurant and most of the common spaces to overlook the wood inside the courtyard.
